Gross Motor and Physiotherapy Supports
What do gross motor supports actually do at home?
Gross motor skills are the big movements: sitting upright through a lesson, climbing, catching a ball, walking a distance without tiring. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disability, and physical development often needs more deliberate work than it otherwise would.
Co-occurring conditions frequently affect this. Global developmental delay, Developmental Coordination Disorder and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome all appear alongside autism. Low core strength brings fatigue, and bilateral movement, balance, hand-eye coordination and hand strength can each need attention.
Just as a dyslexic child may need to read a word hundreds more times to reach fluency, some autistic people need tools to get the extra physical practice their development requires. This range covers balance boards, climbing and swinging equipment, ball skills and resistance items. Some of our customers set up a small circuit in a hallway so movement happens before school rather than after it.
