Why does my child's hand tire so quickly when writing?
Handwriting looks like one job but runs on several: strength in the small hand muscles, a stable wrist and shoulder, and enough sensation from the fingers to know how hard to press. If any of those lags, writing hurts before the page is finished.
Occupational therapists build this the way you would build any strength — short, frequent, resisted movement rather than more writing. Squeezing, pinching, pulling and twisting all count, and they work whether or not the child is willing to pick up a pencil.
This is our largest range: pencil grips, adjustable hand grippers, finger exercisers and stretch trainers, PopTubes, lacing and threading boards, shape sorters, pin art, and instruments such as ocarinas and tongue drums. Schools order pencil grips in bulk. One customer keeps a finger exerciser in the car for the drive to swimming.
