Sensory - Movement
Why do some autistic people need to move to stay regulated?
Two sensory systems govern movement. The vestibular system, in the inner ear, tracks balance and where your head is in space. The proprioceptive system reports pressure and body position through muscles and joints.
Many autistic people need more input from these systems than daily life supplies, and will rock, spin, jump or seek pressure to get it. That is not a behaviour to stop — it is a disability-related support need being met. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists often work directly on balance, bilateral coordination and upper-limb coordination.
This collection provides that input safely and on purpose: swings and hammocks, spinning seats, wobble cushions for the classroom, and balance equipment for home practice.
