Wind-Up Toys
Why do wind-up toys hold attention so well?
A wind-up toy does the same thing every time. You turn the key, you let go, it moves, and it stops. That predictability is a large part of the appeal for many autistic children.
Winding the key is also real work for the hands. It uses a pincer grip, wrist rotation and both hands together (bilateral coordination), which are the same movements an occupational therapist targets in a table-top task.
This is a small collection of hopping, walking and swimming wind-ups for the bath, the table and the floor. Some of our customers use one as a short break between harder tasks. Others find them useful for cause-and-effect play with a toddler who is not yet interested in toys that need instructions.
